The client approached me to design a logo for her mobile pottery painting business, with a brief calling for a soft, round, clear, crisp, fun, childlike, tactile, hand-drawn, colourful and bright identity.
We began by exploring a wide range of fonts and visual references to help define the client’s aesthetic preferences. Inspired by these findings, I developed several concepts that captured the playful, creative spirit of the brand. The final design was a personalised, hand-lettered version of Felt Tip, chosen for its informal, friendly feel, lowercase lettering, and distinctive handwritten ‘a’.
To connect the logo to the pottery painting process — and offer a subtle nod to the business’s previous branding — I incorporated colourful paint splats, reimagined in a fresh, contemporary style.
The client was delighted with the result. Since launching the new identity, the business has experienced increased interest, with customers regularly complimenting the polished, professional look compared to local competitors.
“Cathy designed my logo in 2017 when I took the leap of faith to leave my professional career as a Deputyhead teacher and continue to grow my small business, Flying Colours Pottery. Being a creative business, it was very important that my logo and associated fonts and artwork showcased my artistic flare! It was clear from the start that Cathy is passionate about her work and took time to understand my brief, in a friendly yet professional manner. She presented several options and together we tweaked the design and settled on the final logo. I have continued to work with Cathy over the years as she has created flyers, business cards, vehicle wrapping, vouchers, banners, adverts and advised on web design.
Cathy has a wealth of experience in the field of design, as a result my business has a clear identity and a professional stamp that I could never have accomplished by myself. ”
