The client approached me to design a logo for a mobile pottery painting business, seeking a playful, approachable identity with a tactile, hand-crafted quality.
Initial exploration focused on type styles and visual references to define the desired aesthetic direction. This informed the development of several concepts, which balanced a friendly, informal tone with clarity and recognisability at small scale.
The final identity is a customised hand-lettered wordmark based on Felt Tip, selected for its soft, informal character and distinctive handwritten forms. To reference the creative process at the heart of the business, the logo incorporates abstract paint splatters, reinterpreted in a more contemporary and controlled visual language.
“Cathy designed my logo in 2017 when I took the leap of faith to leave my professional career as a Deputyhead teacher and continue to grow my small business, Flying Colours Pottery. Being a creative business, it was very important that my logo and associated fonts and artwork showcased my artistic flare! It was clear from the start that Cathy is passionate about her work and took time to understand my brief, in a friendly yet professional manner. She presented several options and together we tweaked the design and settled on the final logo. I have continued to work with Cathy over the years as she has created flyers, business cards, vehicle wrapping, vouchers, banners, adverts and advised on web design.
Cathy has a wealth of experience in the field of design, as a result my business has a clear identity and a professional stamp that I could never have accomplished by myself. ”
